Registries

Some registries do not require documentation and/or DNA profiling to register a dog or its offspring as purebred.  Registration is typically done to compete in shows or trials, record and protect bloodlines, for the ability to state you own a registered dog, and/or to sell dogs for a better price.

Australian Shepherd Club Of America (ASCA)

- founding and exclusive registry of the Australian Shepherd, ASCA is arguably the most prestegious and ironclad registry of the breed

- owner(s) must be members, ASCA is a not-for-profit registry

- dog must be born out of ASCA registered parents or foreign registered out of parents registered with another accredited registry

- unaltered, standing front, left, and right photographs of dog must be submitted for all registrations

- DNA profiling for foreign registration and/or all breeding sires/dams

- certificate of registration must be submitted for foreign registration

- certified pedigree must be submitted for foreign registration

- the breeder must sign for foreign registration

- dog must be a standard size purebred out of known lineage (Minature/Toy Aussies, non-Aussie breeds, and purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries may not be registered with ASCA).

American Kennel Club (AKC)

- largest and most well known registry, AKC holds the most events focusing primarily on show conformation.  It is, however, noteworthy that AKC orignally refused to recongize the Australian Shepherd as a breed.  It was only after ASCA was formed and a demand was realized for this breed that the Australian Shepherd became a recognized AKC breed

- owner(s) membership is not required, AKC is a not-for-profit registry

- dog must be born on American soil out of AKC registered parents or foreign registered out of parents registered with another accredited registry

- DNA profiling for foreign registration and/or frequently used sires (3 or more litters in 1 calander year or 7 or more litters total)

- certificate of registration must be submitted for foreign registration

- certified pedigree must be submitted for foreign registration

- dog must be a purebred Australian Shepherd out of known lineage, Miniature Australian Shepherds are also recognized as Miniature American Shepherd (mixed breeds and purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries may not be registered with AKC).

Canadian Kennel Club (CKC)

- the Canadian and lesser known version of the American Kennel Club.  Not to be confused with the Continental Kennel Club (also abbreviated to CKC)

- owner(s) membership is required yearly to remain in good standing, if the membership lapses, it must retroactively be paid to be reinstated (this is even if the membership was unused during the lapse)

- must be registered by the breeder

- dog must be born on Canadian soil out of CKC registered parents or foreign registered out of parents registered with another accredited registry

- no DNA profiling

- certificate of registration must be submitted for foreign registration

- certified pedigree must be submitted for foreign registration

- dog must be a purebred Australian Shepherd out of known lineage, Miniature Australian Shepherds are also recognized as Miniature American Shepherd (mixed breeds and purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries may not be registered with CKC).

United Kennel Club (UKC)

- the international and better known version than the Canadian Kennel Club although lesser known than the American Kennel Club, focusing primarily on competitive trials as opposed to show conformation like its American counterpart

- owner(s) membership is not required

- dog must be born out of UKC registered dam and UKC registered or other accredited registry sire or foreign registered out of parents registered with another accredited registry

- DNA profiling for under age and/or dual sired litters or to UKC's discretion

- certificate of registration must be submitted for foreign registration

- pedigree must be submitted for foreign registration (this may be handwritten)

- dog must be a purebred Australian Shepherd out of known lineage, Miniature Australian Shepherds are also recognized as Miniature American Shepherd (mixed breeds and purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries may not be registered with UKC).

American Stock Dog Registry (ASDR)

- a registry of various stock breeds including the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the White German Shepherd

- owner(s) membership is not required

- front, left, and right photographs of dog must be submitted if the dog is not ASDR registered and not registered with another accredited registry

- signature of veterinarian attesting that the dog is believed to be purebred if no documenation is available

- DNA profiling for dual sired litters

- Miniature Aussies, non-Aussie breeds, and believed to be purebred unregistered Aussies may be registered with ASDR.

- dog must be born out of NSDR registered parents or foreign registered out of parents registered with another accredited registry

- no DNA profiling

- certificate of registration must be submitted for foreign registration

Miniature Australian Shepherds and Toy Australian Shepherds are recognized (mixed breeds and purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries may not be registered with NSDR)

Continental Kennel Club (CKC)

- recently created all breed US registry.  Not to be confused with the Canadian Kennel Club (also abbreviated to CKC)

- owner(s) membership is not required

- 2 signatures of US citizens must attest that the dog is purebred if no documentation is available to do so

- 5 photographs of dog must be submitted

- no DNA profiling

- Miniature/Toy Aussies, non-Aussie breeds, purebred unregistered Aussies or those registered with unaccredited registries, and mixed breeds may be registered with CKC.

Hartspride dogs are dual or triple registered and/or pending with ASCA, AKC, and/or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).  They most likely are also UKC, ASDR, NSDR, and CKC (Continental Kennel Club) eligible.  If you would like your puppy to be registered with another eligible registry, or to be registered with CKC/AKC born off soil please let us know and we will do our best to assist you.

Vaccines

Hartspride is a minimal mercury acreage.

We do vaccinate our dogs, however, we prefer to do so at a slightly more mature age for our own dogs as part of a risk verses benefit basis and only do so with thimerosal (mercury) free vaccines.

Mercury is the most toxic substance in the world, having a half life of 20 years within the body.

Merial IMRAB 1 TF and Merial IMRAB 3 TF are thimerosal (mercury) free rabies vaccines.  Rabies is also the only vaccine that is required in Canada.

If you would prefer for your puppy to be vaccinated at a more mature age please let us know.
